It was -15°C when we shot this photo. My fingers were so cold I could barely press the shutter on the camera. Model Tonya handled the situation much better. I suppose the fur coat helped a little, but her resilience was nevertheless impressive.
The photo was taken in Mariinsky Park in Kiev, as part of a photoshoot for the Visit Kiev Ukraine tourism website.
Image Info
- Camera: ILCE-7RM2
- Focal length: 38mm
- Flash fired: yes
- Shutter speed: 1/50s
- Aperture: ƒ/5.6
- ISO: 200
The camera used was a Sony A7RII with a Sony FE 24 – 70 F2.8 GM lens. Off-camera flash provided the lighting; a Godox AD360 with a Godox AD-S7 soft box and diffuser attached.
Basic adjustments to highlights, shadows, and exposure were made in Lightroom. In Photoshop the skin was retouched, and dodging and burning done to emphasize facial features. The eyes were not whitened. Tonya has amazingly clear eyes.
A Kodak Gold 100 preset was then applied in Exposure 2. The image looked a little artificial though. The flash had illuminated the model’s face, but there was almost no colour in the background. To even the image out, the photo was brought back into Lightroom and saturation lowered.
